Shiner football: Shiner ISD holds football camp

Shiner ISD held a football camp last week (May 28-May 30) for young players.
Aspiring  players incoming grades 3-9 attended with about 60 athletes participating at the camp.
Shiner athletic director and head football coach Daniel Boedeker said to his knowledge, this was the first time the school district held a football camp.
“Not for certain if there was one in the past. Never really discussed trying it before. Kids are so busy in summer with all stars, summer track, other camps, and vacations, but we wanted to make it available to the kids and we had great participation,” he said.
On May 28, all of the participants were split into age groupd and went through all stations: QB/DB, WR, OL, Punting/Kicking and DB.
“Kids were taught what we go over with the JH and HS Comanches when they report for practice,” Boedeker said. “We did competitions with every drill.”
On May 29, there was a punt/pass/kick contest, a timed pro-shuttle drill, a 40-meter dash and getting the players heigh and weight.
Camp concluded on May 30 with a flag-football tournament and each players was given a certificate with their height, weight, shuttle time, 40 time and distances in the punt/pass/kick contest.
The camp was staffed by the Shiner HS coaching staff.
