Shiner football: Shiner takes on Iola in regional semifinals

The Comanches are into the regional (regional semifinal) game for the second season in a row.
Shiner (12-0) faces Iola at 2 p.m. Friday (tomorrow) in Giddings.
Iola is 9-3 on the year including two forfeit wins.
They average 35.6 points a game and yield 25.4 a game.
The ‘Dogs defeated Sabinal in the bi-district round 50-28 and La Villa 35-7 in the area round.
“Iola is still playing for a reason,” Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. “They are well coached and play very physical.”
The Bulldogs run the football out of several different formations: spread, Slot-T and single tight-end set.
Running backs Adrian Garrett and Austin Cavillo along with quarterback Tyler Elliot will run behind a big offensive line.
“Our defense will need to  be ready for a very physical game,” Boedeker said.
The Iola defense will run various looks out of ’50’ alignment.
“We need to have good pad level and our line needs to communicate well because  Iola will try plenty of things to try to disrupt our blocking schemes,” Boedeker said.
Shiner’s last game against Iola came in 2006 when the teams met in the regional final. Iola won 34-7.
