Shiner girls basketball: Shiner girls pick up two wins in Smithville tournament

The Shiner girls basketball team went 2-2 in the Smithville Tournament Dec. 27-28.
FBCHA 72, Shiner 59
Morgan Lenehan converted four tres and scored 20 points with Kailey Boedeker adding a triple and 17 points in Shiner’s tournament opener to Fort Bend Christian Homeschool Association with the Lady Eagles winning 72-59.
Shiner managed to lead 19-18 after the first quarter and FBCHA took a 34-29 halftime lead following a 16-10 second-quarter run.
FBCHA outscored Shiner 17-9 in the third to increase the gap and the teams split 42 fourth-quarter points.

Shiner 55, Bastrop Cedar Creek 33
Lenehan and Callie Sevcik each bucketed 16 points, and the Lady Comanches defeated Bastrop Cedar Creek 55-33 in the next game.
Shiner had a good start with a 20-8 run in the first eight minutes and outscored the Lady Eagles 15-7 in the second box.
The Lady Comanches owned 12 of 17 points in the third period and Cedar Creek managed a 13-8 run in the fourth quarter.
Jaylin Serano was the top scorer for the Lady Eagles with 12 points.

Going into the fourth quarter of their game against Rockdale, Shiner held a 39-19 lead over Rockdale and it was enough to secure a 41-36  win despite the Lady Tiger’s 17-2 fourth-quarter run.
The Lady Comanches led 9-6 after eight minutes and outscored Rockdale 15-4 in the second period for a 24-10 halftime lead. They went on a 15-9 run in the third box.
Lenehan led Shiner with 17 total points and three treys and JaMya Wright chipped in 12 points.
Trinity Hurd had 13 for Rockdale.

Shiner’s attempt at a fourth-quarter comeback came up a little short in a 45-40 loss to Columbus.
Shiner was down 35-23 in the fourth and went on a 17-10 run. 
The game was 7-7 after one quarter; Columbus took a 23-16 lead at halftime and padded that with a 12-7 run in the third quarter.
Lenehan was Shiner’s chief scorer with 15 points and a triple while Boedeker supported with a trey and 12 points.
