Shiner graduates playing collegiate sports: Cowan picks up seven pitching wins in 2022 for UHV
Shiner graduate and University of Houston-Victoria softball player Cameron Cowan pitched in several games during her sophomore 2022 season and also batted a little.

In UHV’s opening win against St. Thomas Game 1 of a doubleheader), 5-2, on Feb. 12, Cowan pitched seven innings, eight hits, two runs, two earned runs, four walks and six strikeouts.
On Feb. 15, in game one of a doubleheader against Dallas Christian, she pitched three innings, one hit and six strikeouts in a 10-0 Lady Jaguar win.
In the second game of the series, UHV won 14-0 and Cowan batted going 1-for-1 with one run and a triple.
On Feb. 18 in an 8-4 loss at Texas Southern in the first game of a two-game series, Cowan pitched six innings, seven hits, eight runs, six earned runs, two home runs, five walks and two strikeouts. In the second game, UHV lost 8-0 with Cowan going 1-for-2 at the plate.
On Feb. 28, in the first game of a doubleheader against Our Lady of the Lake University, Cowan scored the only run in a 1-0 win and pitched seven innings, three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
Her next action came March 4 in a 5-3 loss to Central Methodist in the Gulf Coast Classic tournament where she pitched six innings, 10 hits, five runs, five earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
Against Bethel (Tennessee) on March 5, Cowan worked seven innings, two hits, one run, one earned run, two walks and eight strikeouts in UHVs 4-1 victory.
In Game 1 of a doubleheader against University of the Southwest on March 11, she pitched four innings, four hits, two runs, , two earned runs, two walks, one batter hit and four strikeouts in an 11-3 Lady Jags win.
Cowan played both games in the series March 15 against Texas A&M University San Antonio; in game one, she scored one run and pitched seven innings, four hits, one run, one earned run and five strikeouts in a 7-1 win for UHV.
TAMUSA won the second game 5-2 as Cowan pitched 1 1/3 innings, three hits and three strikeouts; she was 0-for-1 at the plate.
She scored a run in the 9-8 squeaker in game two of a two-game series against Texas A&M Texarkana on April 1.
At the plate, Cowan was 2-for-4, three runs scored and one triple. Inside the circle, she had an overall record of 7-2, pitched 48 1/3 innings, 43 hits , 9 runs, 16 earned runs, two home runs, 15 walks, one batter hit and 35 strikeouts.
