Shiner, St. Paul football: Cardinals host FBC for HC
St. Paul plays the second of two straight home games while Shiner has its bye this week.
Fort Bend Christian at St. Paul
The Cardinals (3-1) entertain the Eagles (1-4) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Comanche Stadium.
Fort Bend Christian has scored just 9.8 points a game and has yielded 32 points a game.
St. Paul head coach Barry Wolf said Fort Bend Christian’s record is not indicative of how they play.
“They have played several tough games so far,” he said.
They average just 197.8 yards a game (134.8 passing, 63 rushing) and will look to pass
They have had five different players attempt one pass so far with Kole Whiddon leading as he has gone 34-of-55 for 345 yards and two touchdowns to four interceptions.
“They are a passing team and will get the ball to several players,” Wolf said. “They will line up in a spread with trips or doubles with some two-back. We will have to do a good job of defending the pass.”
Patrick Wadlington is the leading rusher with 119 yards, and Whiddon has 100 yards and the team’s lone rushing touchdown.Donnie Avery, Jr. is the top catcher with 26 grabs for 259 yards and one touchdown.
The Eagles come out in the ’50’ defense.
“When teams line up in the spread, they will drop the defensive ends to outside linebacker. When teams are not in a spread, they crowd the box and dare you to run,” he said.
Gio Gonzales leads the defense with 27 tackles, 23 solo, four assists and two tackles for loss. Trace Holster has 12 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
The two teams did not play last season.
Shiner, bye
After winning all five of their non-district games, the Comanches will be open this week before hosting Charlotte for Homecoming 2025.
Last year, the Comanches and Trojans did not play due to the Trojans not having a sufficient number of available players.
