Shiner, St. Paul football: Shiner goes to Industrial; Cards have bye
The Comanches start a two-game road trip while the Cardinals have their season bye.
Shiner at Industrial
With a good start to non district with three wins out of three games, Shiner takes their show on the road, starting with a trip to Industrial.
The Cobras have not had as good of a start with an 0-3 record with losses to Edna (46-2), Yoakum (45-27) and Goliad (21-14). The Cobras are scoring just 14.3 points per contest and are yielding 37.3 points a game.
Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said Industrial will play very physical.
“They will rely on their running game and the play-action pass,” he said. “The quarterback is the most skilled player on the offensive and has made plays for them. They also have a solid running back and a big offensive line. We need to be aware of the quarterback and use our quickness to establish the line of scrimmage.”
The Cobras run the “split” on the defense.
“They have two good ends. They will rotate guys in and out as they look for a good lineup,” Boedeker said. “Winning the line of scrimmage will be important along with our pad level, getting a good push and being able to move the ball.”
Shiner won last year 49-28 for their first win of the season.
St. Paul off
St. Paul will have an open date in the fourth week. The Cardinals are 2-1 in three games with wins over Sunnyside KIPP (10-8) and Corpus Christi John Paul II (51-7). St. Paul’s only setback was a 20-7 score at League City Bay Area Christian on Sept. 5.The Cardinals are back in action with Sept. 26 at home to Katy St. John XXIII.
