Shiner volleyball: Lady Comanches place sixth at home tournament

The Shiner Comanches placed second in the Purple Bracket of the Shiner Tournament, posting a record of 2-3.
Senior Chesney Machacek was selected for the All-Tournament Team.
Bracket Play
Shiner played the Shiner Junior Varsity Gold in the Purple semifinals.
Against their fellow Lady Comanches, the varsity won 28-26, 20-25, 15-9.
In the Purple championship,  Shiner played Hallettsville with the Lady Brahmas winning 26-28, 25-20, 15-9.
Pool Play
Shiner won one and lost two games in pool play to get third in Pool B.
Victoria St. Joseph 2, Shiner 0
The Lady Comanches started their tournament play Friday afternoon against Victoria St. Joseph of TAPPS.  The Lady Flyers swept Shiner 25-19, 25-16. The Lady Comanches fell behind 5-3 after eight points in the opening set before scoring four of five points with a kill and block from Morgan Lenehan, and an ace by Kylynn Ramirez.
An ace from Paisly Wallace gave Shiner a 10-8 lead but St. Joseph went on a 6-0  run, mainly on some aces from Jordyn Johnston. The Lady Flyers later jumped ahead 19-13 and each team scored six points as VSJ took the six-point victory.
The Lady Comanches produced a 5-3 lead after the first eight points of the second game; Kathryn Hickman put down two kills during a VSJ 8-2 run.
The Lady Flyers then scored nine of 15 points for a 20-13 lead and then finished the set and the match with a 5-3 run.
Shiner 2, Smithville 0
Shiner bounced back with a 25-18, 25-23 win over Smithville later in the afternoon.
In the first game, Smithville took a 6-3 lead early, and the Lady Comanches came back with nine of 10 points with two kills from Nevaeh Jones and an ace from Callie Sevcik.
The Lady Tigers got within one point at 17-16 before Shiner outscored them 8-2 with two Jones kills, one Machacek kill and aces by Klynn Ramirez and Paisly Wallace.
El Campo 2, Shiner 0
The Lady Comanches closed out pool play against Friday evening against  El Campo and the Lady Ricebirds won 25-21, 25-22.
