Shiner volleyball: Shiner wins four at Schulenburg Tournament
The Shiner volleyball team won four games at the Schulenburg Tournament and finished third in the Bronze bracket.

Shiner 2, Hallettsville 1
The Lady Comanches got some payback against Hallettsville with a 25-22, 18-25, 26-24 win to close out pool play Thursday afternoon. The Lady Brahmas has defeated Shiner in bracket play Aug. 17 in the Shiner Tournament.
Two aces by Chesney Machacek helped Shiner led 6-4 early in the first set; Hallettsville then turned the lead away with a 5-1 run.
Later, with a 12-12 tie, the Lady Comanches grabbed the lead back with serves from Harlee Sevcik and a Lexi Boner block at 15-12.
The Lady Brahmas got within 16-14 before a minor 9-8 run by Shiner put them 1-0 ahead in the match.
In the second set, the teams split the opening eight points before 6-2 run, on the service of Kenedy Wood, put Hallettsville ahead 10-6.
Shiner later got within 14-13 but it would be the closest they got within the LBs before Hallettsville scored 11 of the next 16 points.
In the early goings of the third game, Hallettsville had an early 8-5 advantage with an Addison Matula ace, and kills from Wood and Kasey Harper.
Shiner fought back with a kill by Nevaeh Jones and a Callie Sevcik ace for a 9-9 tie.
The Lady Brahmas put themselves in a good position as they climbed out to a 17-13 lead but a 7-3 run by the Lady Comanches, with a Brinley Ramirez ace and Machacek block, pulled things square.
The teams tied and traded the lead a few times before Shiner scored two straight from 24-24 with Callie Sevcik getting a kill.

Friday Pool G play
The Lady Comanches won two and lost on in Pool G play on Friday.
Shiner 2, Gonzales 1
The Lady Comanches commenced Pool G play Friday afternoon with a 2-1 (26-28, 25-16, 25-18) win over the Gonzales Lady Apaches.
Gonzales took the first set and Shiner won two straight for a comeback victory.
The Lady Apaches scored the first six points of the first set, getting three aces from Alexzis Hernandez.
Trailing 11-4, Shiner went on a 7-1 run with service and a couple of aces by Kylynn Ramirez. Callie Sevcik and Harlee Sevcik contributed a kill each to later bring the Lady Comanches level with Gonzales at 14-14.
The Lady Apaches then scored four straight points; Shiner countered with a 5-1 run with a JaMya Wright kill, Harlee Sevcik block and Calle Sevcik ace.
Two aces from Brinley Ramirez put the Lady Comanches ahead 23-21 and close to victory before Gonzales went on a 7-3 run to take the set.
In the second game, Shiner used a 7-2 run to take a 13-8 lead with blocks from Boner and Jones, a Machacek kill and Kylynn Ramirez ace. Shiner increased the lead to 17-10 and then finished things off with eight of 14 points with kill and ace from Machacek, and several plays by Jones.
In the third set, a kill by Boner and serves from Brinley Ramirez allowed the Lady Comanches to break the game open, taking a 20-11 lead.
Gonzales got back in the game with a 7-2 run; Shiner finished things with a 3-0 run with kills from Jones and Harlee Sevcik.

The Lady Comanches turned away Brazos in two close sets, 25-21 and 25-22 in its second match of the day.
With two kills by Machacek and a Harlee Sevcik block, the Lady Comanches got the early advantage (6-4) after 10 points in the opening set and later went up 16-10, getting three straight aces by Kylynn Ramirez during the run.
Morgan Lenehan contributed a block and Jones got a kill as Shiner held a 21-16 lead. Brazos eventually pulled to within 21-18 before Shiner went on a small 4-3 run to conclude the game.
In the second set, the teams split the opening 12 points and the Lady Comanches went ahead 10-6 before Brazos went on a 6-1 run to take a 12-11 lead and then a 15-13 lead.Shiner then outscored the Lady Cougars 4-1 with help from a Lenehan kill and Brinley Ramirez ace.
The Lady Comanches went on a 5-2 run from a 20-20 tie to take the set and the match with a Jones/Harlee Sevcik block, a Harlee Sevcik solo block and Wright kill contributing to the set-ending run.
