Shiner volleyball:Lady Comanches win second at home tournament

The Shiner Lady Comanches finished second overall in their home tournament last weekend, falling to Yoakum in their second matchup in less than seven days.
Seniors Rylee Vancura and Chelsea Whiddon were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Yoakum 2, Shiner 0
The Lady Bulldogs swept Shiner in the Gold Championship game in two close sets Saturday afternoon, 27-25, 25-23.

Shiner 2, Sacred Heart 1
Shiner lost the first set to the Indianettes then rallied to win two straight in Gold semifinals Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Comanches won 18-25, 25-14, 25-20.

Shiner 2, Stockdale 0
The Lady Comanches played their first match against Stockdale Friday morning.
It was a red-hot start for the Lady Comanches as Meghan Blaschke had two aces, Chelsea Whiddon got a couple of kills and block, Vancura got a kill and Morgan Lenehan got a kill as well as Shiner scored the first 15 points.
Stockdale managed to halt the run by scoring four of the next five.
Lenehan and Aimee Mitchon put together some more kills for a quick 3-1 run. From there, Shiner closed out the set with six of seven points as Callie Sevcik got an ace, Whiddon got another kill and Mitchon scored the set winner on a block.
In the second game, the Lady Brahmas turned the tables with the first five points and led 10-2 after 12 points.
Mitchon teamed up with Sevcik and then got an ace or two to send Shiner on a 10-2 run to tie the set.
Vancura and Chesney Machacek added kills to put the Lady Comanches ahead 17-13. Stockdale came back with a 7-2 run to go ahead by a point and they later led 24-23 before Shiner went on a 3-0 run with a kill from Lenehan and Mitchon got an ace to win the set and the match.

Shiner 2, Hallettsville 1
The Lady Comanches dropped the opening set of their second pool match against Hallettsville’s Lady Brahmas before rallying for a 2-1 win.
Kills by Vancura and Mitchon, and an Erin Hajek ace gave Shiner a narrow 6-5 lead after 11 points.
Hallettsville then scored seven of 10 points for a 12-9 advantage and the Lady Comanches came back with a 7-3 run with two blocks from Lenehan, serves from Blaschke and a Vancura kill.
Shiner later took a 22-20 before the Lady Brahmas went on a 5-1 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
After a close early part of the second game, the Lady Comanches got kills from Vancura and Hajek for a 15-11 lead and from that point Shiner went on a 5-2 run before scoring five of the next six, getting late kills from JaMya Wright and Lenehan to close out the set.
In the third game, Whiddon’s serves helped Shiner take a 5-2 lead after seven points and then serves from Kylynn Ramirez along with kills from Vancura and Mitchon got the Lady Comanches rolling with an 11-1 run for 16-3 lead. Hajek’s serves put Shiner ahead 21-6 and they went on to win the third game 25-13.

Shiner 2, Gonzales 0
The Lady Comanches wrapped up pool play and earned the top seed with a 25-20, 25-14 sweep over Gonzales.
After the Lady Apaches took the first lead, it was a 9-1 run for Shiner with serves from Ramirez, and plays from Mitchon, Vancura and Charlotte Grosenbacher.
The Lady Comanches held a comfortable lead until Gonzales got within 19-17 and Shiner scored six of the next nine points to take the set, getting two aces from Sevcik and a kill by Machacek.
In the second game, Grosenbacher and Ramirez got some aces to get Shiner ahead 6-3 after the Lady Apaches scored the first two points. With a 13-9 lead, Shiner outscored Gonzales 12-5 to take the set and the match.
