St. Paul baseball: Cards nine drop Spring Break contests
The St. Paul baseball team had some tough breaks during Spring Break, falling at Katy St. John XXIII on March 17 and coming up short to First Baptist Academy on March 18.
Katy St. John XXIII 19, St. Paul 9
The Cardinals produced the hits but not the runs to keep up with Katy St. John XXIII in a 19-9 loss to the Lions March 17 in Katy.
KSJ outscored St. Paul 4-2 in the first inning and 4-3 in the second. The teams split six runs in the third; the Lions outscored St. Paul 2-1 in the fourth before outscoring them 3-0 in the fifth and sixth frames.
St. Paul got 11 hits with five of them being extra-base hits.
Jace Matias led the Cards on the bats by going 4-for-5 with triple, double, two runs and three RBI. Ian Kennedy got two hits with run and double.
Kennedy started on the mound and pitched two innings, with seven hits, eight runs, four walks and three strikeouts. Jack Leonard worked two innings, five runs on two hits, five walks and three strikeouts. Levi Leonard ceded three runs and three walks. Evan Rother finished out with 1 2/3 innings with three runs and three walks.
Biehunko had five putouts in the field.

First Baptist Academy scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 deadlock and defeat the Cardinals 7-3 at the Shiner Starplex.
St. Paul led 1-0 after one inning, and each team scored once run in the third inning. FBA tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth before outscoring St. Paul 1-0 in the sixth.
St. Paul tied the game in the seventh to force extra innings.
At the plate, CJ Fogle was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI; Biehunko got two hits, both doubesl and had two RBI while Matias hit 2-for-2 with four runs.
Fogle pitched six innings with three runs on two hits, two walks and 15 strikeouts. Matias closed out with the last two frames, four runs on two hits and two strikeouts.
