St. Paul boys basketball: Cardinals get district win against VFA

St. Paul boys basketball team beat Victoria Faith and lost to Bulverde Bracken Christian in two road contests last week.

Ezekiel Rodriguez scored 14 points and St. Paul rallied from a small halftime deficit to pick up their first district win, a 44-41 edging of Victoria Faith Academy Jan. 28 in Victoria.
Gabe Darilek and Andrew Nunez each scored three points as St. Paul trailed 13-10 after one quarter. Carter Chilek scored six points in the second frame to lead St. Paul’s 8-7 run in the second quarter.
In the third frame, St. Paul went on 17-14 run with Rodriguez bagging nine points. 
In the fourth quarter, St. Paul scored nine of 16 points.

Bulverde Bracken 60, St. Paul 39
A 25-7 second-quarter by Bracken got them a 60-39 win over St. Paul Friday in Bulverde.  Gabe Darilek had three points to lead the Cardinals in the pivotal frame.
The Warriors outscored the Cardinals 14-11 in the third frame with Jack Leonard slipping in five points; St. Paul went on an 18-15 run in the fourth period with six points by Leonard.
Bracken led 6-3 after the first quarter with St. Paul getting two points from Sam Perez.
