St. Paul boys basketball: Cardinals win Yorktown Tournament

The Cards had a perfect week, going 6-0 and also winning the Yorktown tournament.

Tyler Pendley burned the scoreboard with 27 points as St. Paul routed San Antonio Keystone 95-50 Dec. 9 at home.
The Cards led 23-13 after the first quarter and led 46-11 at halftime.
They outscored Keystone 28-12 in the third quarter and went on a 21-14 run in the fourth.
Gavi Flores bagged 19 points and a triple for Keystone.

Yorktown Tournament
St. Paul won the Yorktown Tournament winning all five games it played.
SP 78, Cotulla 55.
Pendley scored 18 points with Carter Chilek and Jack Ehrig splitting 28 total points in St. Paul’s first tournament game, a 78-55 win over Cotulla on Thursday.
St. Paul led by one, 19-18, after one quarter but outscored Cotulla 23-8 in the second frame. St. Paul went on a 22-18 run in the fourth quarter and held a 14-11 scoring advantage in the final eight minutes.
Cotulla was led by Jamarkuz Ramirez who netted 24 points and five triples.

Chilek and Ehrig each recorded 13 points while Jace Matias put in 11 points and a triple; Pendley finished with 10 points a triple as St. Paul beat Weimar 63-36 Thursday.
The Cards led 16-9 after eight minutes and went on a 19-4 second-quarter run.
They outscored the Wildcats 21-11 in the third and Weimar scored 11 of 18 in the fourth frame.
Collin Morrison led Weimar with three treys and 13 total points.

Chilek scored 14 points with Ehrig netting 13 and Pendley providing two triples and 11 points in St. Paul’s 65-35 victory over the hosts Friday. 
St. Paul led 18-9 in the first quarter and was ahead 31-18 at intermission.
The Cards outscored Yorktown 26-9 in the third quarter and the teams each sank eight points in the fourth quarter.
Kason Sullivan and McKenzie Yanta each made a triple and scored seven points for Yorktown.

Later on Friday, St. Paul played Cotulla again, winning 87-47 this time.
St. Paul outscored Cotulla 22-9 in the opening quarter and forged a 38-18 halftime lead. St. Paul went on a 27-5 third quarter run and slightly outscored Cotulla 27-24 in the final eight minutes. 
Ehrig led St. Paul with 19 points and three triples. Rene Barrera and Ramirez each made three treys and 17 points each.

Matias scored 20 points and Ehrig laid down 20 as St. Paul beat Yorktown 70-48 in the championship game.
St. Paul 20-16 after one frame and outscored the Wildcats 17-6 in the second box for a 37-22 lead at halftime. St. Paul outscored Yorktown 33-26 in the second half.
Yanta nailed 17 points and hit five triples to lead Yorktown in the book.
