St. Paul softball: Lady Cardinals get win in Flatonia Tournament

    The Lady Cardinals were edged by Boerne Geneva and went 1-3 in the Flatonia Tournament last week.
    Boerne Geneva 9, SP 7
    Boerne Geneva scored half a dozen runs in the bottom of the fifth and it was enough to rally for a 9-7 win against St. Paul March 3 in Boerne.
    The Lady Cardinalsl scored two runs in the top of the sixth to get within 8-5;  the Lady Eagles scored one run in the bottom of the inning and St. Paul scored two runs to close the gap to 9-7 at their final time at bat.
    St. Paul went up 1-0 early and was 3-0 ahead after three and-and-half innings. Geneva scored twice in the bottom of the fourth.
    At the plate, Presley Tuch was 4-for-4 with one home run and three RBI; Tatum Walker went 3-for-4, one run and a pair of RBI while Sally Machacek went 2-for-4, run and double.
    Walker pitched six innings with nine runs on 13 hits, one batter hit, issued five walks and got nine strikeouts.
    On defense, Eden Rodriguez got five putouts.

    Flatonia Tournament
    Luling 14, St. Paul 5
    The Lady Cardinals rallied once but were unable to do it a second time as they opened the tournament with a 14-5 loss to Luling on Thursday morning.
    The Lady Eagles started the game with two hits and got help from a batter hit and a walk to plate four runs.
    In the bottom of the first, Annie Werner got a leadoff walk and took second on a passed ball. Presley Tuch got to first on an error while Werner went to third. Tuch went to second on another error while Werner scored. Kristen Cerny was walked and took second on a passed ball. Tuch later stole home to get the Lady Cardinals within  4-2.
    The Lady Eagles went up 5-2 in the second as Kaleigh Medina singled and later scored on a hit by Zoey Willaims.
    In the bottom of the second, Sally Machacek reached on an error; Werner was hit by the pitch and both scored on a single by Tuch.
    St. Paul tied the game at 5-5 with Clara Kinney’s two-out, RBI single to right field.
    In the top of the third, Luling got five hits and scored nine runs.
    In the bottom of the frame, Eden Rodriguez hit a two-out double as time expired.

    The Lady Bulldogs scored 10 runs in the second inning and one in the fourth to blank St. Paul 11-0 Thursday afternoon.
    The Lady Cardinals just got three hits — Walker doubled with Werner and Kinney also getting a hit.
    Walker pitched 3 1/3 innings with 11 runs on seven hits, one batter hit, five walks and two strikeouts.
    In the field, Addy Matias had six putouts.

    Smithville 12, St. Paul 1
    The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the opening inning and went on to defeat St. Paul 12-1 on Saturday.  
    Smithville went ahead 4-0 after two innings and scored six innings in the third; Smithville outscored the Lady Cardinals 2-1 in the fourth inning.
    Tuch had St. Paul’s offense as she went 2-for-2 with run and triple.
    Werner pitched four frames with 11 hits, 12 runs, one batter hit, four walks issued and struck out two batters.  Rodriguez had five putouts on defense.

    St. Paul outscored Brazos 11-2 in the opening inning and went on to defeat the Lady Cougars 17-2 to conclude action in the tournament on Saturday.
    St. Paul scored just one run in the second before bringing in 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning.
    At the plate, Tuch was 2-for-2, three runs and an RBI.
    Alyssa Jasek was 1-for-1, double, RBI and two runs.
    Walker hit 1-for-2, two runs and one RBI.
    Rodriguez scored three runs and Lexie Ulcak scored two runs.
    Walker pitched three innings with two runs on one hit, two walks and eight strikeouts.
    Walker and Jasek each had one putout.
