Tribe defeats Rosehill Chrn.
TOMBALL – The Sacred Heart Indians made the 116.2 mile trek to Tomball worthwhile with a 34-13 victory over Rosehill Christian in a TAPPS District 5 Division IV game Friday night.
Quarterback Andrew Steffek accounted for three touchdowns - two throwing and one running.
“We hadn’t played on the road in six weeks, so I was pleased that our team was able to go out and earn a nice win.” Indian head coach Alex Seydler said. “Rosehill is a tough place to play and our kids did a great job of getting off to a quick start on both offense and defense. Our offense came out of the gates and sustained a touchdown drive to begin the game which put us up early and gave us the momentum.”
“Our defense generated three and out after three and out which continued to give our offense opportunities to possess the ball and start drives with excellent field position.”
The Indians got the scoring underway with a 72-yard, 6-play drive culminated by a 14-yard pass from Steffek to Hudson Kutac. Steffek kicked the point after. The touchdown came at the 3:06 mark of the first quarter.
The Indians scored seconds later when Steffek ran 12 yards for a touchdown for a 14-0 lead. The drive covered 41 yards and took 5 plays for a 14-0 advantage.
Rosehill Christian trimmed the margin to 14-7 prior to the Indians scoring 14 unanswered points for a 28-7 lead at the half.
Halfback Riley Haas scored on a 1-yard run to end a 55-yard, 3-play march with 1:30 remaining in the second period.
With just 33 seconds left in the second quarter, Steffek zeroed in on Brennan Kaiser for 34-yard touchdown, the final points of the game for the Indians and a 34-7 halftime lead.
“Being up 34-7 at halftime and in total control of the game was a good feeling,” Seydler said.
