Tribe loses in state finals
ARLINGTON – Attempting to reach the pinnacle for the first since 2002, the Sacred Heart Indians were turned away in an 11-6 loss to Red Oak Ovilla in the TAPPS 2A state championship game at Clay Gould Ballpark Saturday.
Three Indian errors led to 8 unearned runs and was the culprit. The Eagles committed just one error.
Five Indian pitchers gave up 11 hits while the Indians collected six.
The Eagles began the scoring with 4 runs in the first inning. Wes Bryant singled to lead off, but after two strikeouts came two hit batsmen and error and a walk prior to a big two-out hit by Trevor Navarro.
The Indians scored twice in the bottom of the first. Ty Noska was safe on the only Eagle error and Tyler Hawkins walked. Bases loaded walks to Wade Shimek and Brady Haas produce the two runs
The Indians trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the 2nd on a RBI single by Hawkins, but didn’t score again until the 5th inning after the Eagle had taken an 8-3 lead.
Hawkins walked to begin the 5th inning and scored on an infield out by Josh Terry after a Kobi Valchar double. Valchar came across on a sacrifice fly by Shimek
The final Indian run scored in the 6th inning after Klayton Chance walked and scored on a single by Noska to trim the lead to 8-5. But the Eagles added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning to put the game out of reach
Hawkins went 2-for-2 and Valchar 2-for-4.
Valchar, Chance, Josh, Terry and Harvey were named all-tournament.
