Tribe wraps up District Title

The St. Paul-Sacred Heart game wasn’t exactly one for the ages, but instead a donnybrook.

The Indians clinched the TAPPS District 5 Division IV championship with a 15-11 victory over the Cardinals here Wednesday, April 10.

The Indians had a 9-8 advantage until they scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to distance themselves.

SH sent 11 batters to the plate with Wade Shimek being hit by a pitch to start the frame. Shimek moved up a base on Dillon Goedrich’s sacrifice bunt. A single by Layne Sevcik got Shimek home. A sacrifice fly by Kellen Mechura scored Sevcik. The Indians scored four more runs with two outs. Klayton Chance had a base hit and Hudson Kutac was hit by a pitch before Ty Noska drew a bases loaded base on balls to fill the sacks. Emerson Harvey hit a 0-1 pitch to left field for two RBI and Josh Terry and Shimek drove in runs with singles.

SH coach Mark Noska made a few trips to the mound and used four pitchers in the contest. All four of them walked two leading to eight free bases. Goedrich ended up the winning pitcher and Terry got the save.

SH had 10 hits and SP seven. The Indians stranded nine baserunners and the Cardinals 11.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning and the Indians replied with three runs in the bottom half for a 3-2 advantage. Kutac walked on four pitches as did Noska. A sacrifice bunt by Harvey moved both runners up prior to Terry delivering a RBI single. Noska scored on a passed ball and Terry on a bunt by Shimek.

The teams both scored two runs in the third inning with one coming across when Chance was hit by a pitch and the other on a base hit by Kutac.

The Indians had a four-run, fourth inning.
