YHS Bulldogs defeat Cobras to end regular season
A 17-7 run in the second quarter proved to be crucial in a 42-41 Yoakum High School (YHS) Bulldog win at Industrial on Feb. 13 to end the regular season.
The Bulldogs placed runner up in district and had a great year after several seasons of struggle.
“We went from 3-11 in district last year to 11-3 this year. This is the first time the program has been to the playoffs in 18 years and the first winning season in 20 years,” Yoakum head coach Roderick Taylor said. We won against Industrial without help from Gage Harrison who missed because of illness.”
The score was 3-3 after the first quarter and each team sank 11 points in the third box, keeping the Bulldogs ahead 31-21.
The Cobras went on a 20-11 run in the fourth quarter, but their rally was little short.
X’Zavier Barnett and Clayton Hlavac each had 12 points for Yoakum. Industrial’s Jake O Alexander led all scoring with 23 points.
