YHS Lady Bulldog fall in close game
The Yoakum girls soccer team brought the spirit in the second half at Apache Field in Gonzales on March 1.
Their resurgence resulted in a goal but they were down 2-0 at halftime and came up short 2-1.
“We did not bring the energy in the first half. We were flat. We showed our potential in the second half,” Lady Bulldogs head coach Melissa Colman said. “Just could not fully catch up. This game was very aggressive unlike the first game that was evenly matched. There were plenty of missed fouls in this one.”
Yoakum got their first chance of the second half 11 minutes in with a shot on goal from the left by Brianna Lopez that was saved.
A minute later, Gonzales’s Chelsea Garcia had a shot go wide left.
At the 18:33 mark, Daphne Oviedo got free down the left and ripped off a shot that went into the Gonzales net to get Yoakum within 2-1.
Later in the half, around the 2:40 mark, Garcia had a shot from the right side that was punched away by Yoakum keeper Gabi Gonzalez.
