YHS Lady Bulldog Softball Team goes 1-1 in district against Columbus, Palacios

    The Lady Bulldogs lost to Columbus and beat Palacios last week in district.

    COLUMBUS 9, YOAKUM 3

    The Lady Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to rally from a small 1-0 deficit to beat Yoakum 9-3 March 19 in Yoakum.

    Yoakum led 1-0 after three innings and scored two in the seventh to try get back into the game.

    Columbus held the Lady ‘Dogs to three hits with Destiny Rios leading by going 2-for-3 with one run, double.

    Hannah Schultz started inside the circle, going 4 2/3 innings, seven hits, eight runs, five walks and two strikeouts; Madilynn Steinmann pitched 2 1/3 innings with two hits, one run and four strikeouts.

    Lexi Zaruba made nine putouts in the field.

    YOAKUM 13, PALACIOS 5

    Macie Blakeney went 4-for-5, scored one run, with one RBI and two doubles with Olivia Fojt hit 2-for-5 with run, triple and four RBI to help Yoakum beat Palacios 13-5 on Friday.

    Madisen Grant, Steinmann and Addison Pekar also got two hits as Yoakum had 15 hits.

    Schultz yielded five runs on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts with Zaruba leading the defense with three putouts.

    Yoakum scored one in the first inning before Palacios went up 4-1 after three innings.

    Yoakum outscored Palacios 4-1 in the fourth to tie the game at 5-5 before taking the lead 6-5 in the fifth and scoring seven more in the sixth inning.
