YHS Varsity Bulldog soccer loses 5-0
The Yoakum High School (YHS) Bulldog Soccer Team has been battling adversity provided by the injury bug.
The adversity continued as the Yoakum Bulldogs lost against rival Gonzales 5-0 at Apache Field on Friday.
The personnel issues has required the Bulldogs to switch up some of the positions.
The Bulldogs are trying to work on other things such as winning the ball and getting their passing down.
“It was frustrating. We are having to play people in positions that they have not played because of the injuries,” Yoakum head coach Dewayne Arkadie said.
“Have to get the game going. We stilll need to get our passing better. We have to get our defensive rotations better. A lot of the time, when we have 50-50 balls, we were not challenging for them and we have to challenge those.”
The Bulldogs faced offensive pressure from Gonzales right off the bat— just a minute or two into the game, keeper Martin Perez saved a free-kick shot and a minute later, Christopher Gonzalez had a shot bounce off the cross bar.
The first Apache breakthrough came at the 36:03 mark when Enrique Reyna took a shot from the middle of the box for a 1-0 lead.
Reyna scored with eight minutes later on a header shot from the left side.
The Bulldogs had a chance in with 19:47 left as Jesus Rivas shot high.
Three minutes later, he took a free kick and put the ball on the goal, forcing a save.
The Gonzales Apaches struck again at 9:31 when Emiliana Lopez put a through ball for Brandon Duezez, who settled it in the middle of the box and took the shot for a 3-0 Gonzales lead.
The Apaches took the Bulldog goal for the remainder of the half, and did not find a fourth one.
Gonzales went up 4-0 10 minutes into the second half when a pass by Damian Orduna found Duezes for another goal.
At the 29:07 mark, Rivas put a shot on goal from the left that was saved.
The Apaches scored their fifth goal when Alan Orduna won possession in front of the goal and scored.
