Yoakum cross country: Boys take second at district, qualify for regional meet
The Yoakum boys earned runner up at district and will compete at the regional meet as a team for the first time since 2017. Yoakum also went in 2016, which was head coach Dennis Muehlstein’s first year as coach.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth as team, scoring 81 points.
Gisela Martinez was the only top 10 finisher for the Lady ‘Dogs as she was fifth in 12 minutes, 59.2 seconds and will compete at regionals as an individual.
Emily Sanchez was No. 14 in 13:55.29, followed by Cameron Williams in 13:55.79. Samantha Adamek finished in 14:28. 43 for No. 25; Sierra Rivera was No. 28 in 14:30 and Olivia Fojt was No. 30 in 14:36.38.
Varsity Boys
Yoakum scored 63 points for the team silver, Rice won the title with 25 points.
Top finisher for the ‘Dogs was Brenten Jacob who was seventh in 19:21.38. Aiden Alvarez was No. 15 in 1fifth9:48.95, followed by Clayton Hlavac in 19:56.39; Rafael Castillo was No. 20 in 20:06.2; Jesus Rivas was No. 24 in 20:19.06. Martin Perez was No. 29 in 21:19.36.
JV Girls
Rubi Martinez got seventh in 15:15.24; Mia Quintanilla was No. 13 in 16:17.15 and following was Daphne Oviedo in 16:34.62.
JV Boys
Michael Barrerra was top finisher with No. 13 in 22:58.67; Carlos Zapata was No. 17 in 23:36.01; Leo Gutierrez was No. 24 in 24:53.37; Brayden Neubauer was No. 30 in 27:59.69, followed by Daniel Martinez (28:03.17) and Eli Hernandez (28:26.61).
