Yoakum softball: Lady Bulldogs rout Palacios in district win

The Lady Bulldogs softball lost a close one at Columbus and pounded Palacios to split two district games last week.

The Lady Cardinals scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a 12-6 deficit to edge Yoakum 15-12 in an offensive-heavy game March 21 in Columbus.
The Lady ‘Dogs scored three runs in each of the first and second innings for a 6-0 lead before scoring two runs in the third and taking a 9-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Columbus got within 9-4 in the bottom of the inning and Yoakum outscored them 3-2 in the fifth for a 12-6 lead.
Yoakum got a dozen hits, led by Madisen Grant who got three hits  scored one run and had an RBI; Stephanie Oviedo got two hits, home run, three runs and two RBI. Olivia Fojt and Kaci Idlett also had multiple hits.
Hannah Schultz itched 5 1/3 innings with nine hits, eight runs, five walks and eight strikeouts; Fojt worked 2/3 innings with seven runs, one hit, six walks and two strikeouts.
Macie Blakeney made four putouts.

Yoakum scored 13 runs in their first time at bat and went on to a 13-4 win over Palacios Saturday at home.
The Sharkettes scored at the beginning of the game and brought in three runs in the third frame.
At the plate, Destiny Rios got two hits, home run and three RBI; Madilynne Steinmann got two hits, one run, triple and two RBI. Macie Blakeney got two hits, two runs, two RBI, triple; Madisen Grant scored twice with two hits, two RBI and a double; Stephanie Oviedo got a pair of hits, two runs, RBI and double.
Steinmann pitched five innings with four runs, five hits, two batters hit, two walks and five strikeouts.
Lexi Zaruba made three putouts.
