Yoakum Softball: Lady 'Dogs sweep district games last week

The Lady Bulldogs improved on their district record last week with wins over Tidehaven and Edna.

A five-run fifth inning helped give the Lady ‘Dogs an 8-1 district win over Tidehaven at home March 28.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Yoakum plated a single run and then scored twice in the fifth inning.
Tidehaven ended the shutout with a single run off a home run in the seventh.
Hannah Schultz ceded just the three hits and one run with three walks and 11 strikeouts. Destiny Rios made four putouts.
Olivia Fojt led at the plate with three hits and two runs. Madisen Grant got two hits and scored twice; Macie Blakeney went 1-for-4, double and two runs.

Early runs help the Lady ‘Dogs take down Edna 10-2.
Yoakum led 4-0 after the first inning and 7-0 after two frames.
Edna got on the board with one run in the third and got within 7-2 in the top of the sixth before Yoakum scored three times in the bottom of the seventh.
Schultz yielded just three hits, two runs, three walks and 15 strikeouts.
She led at the plate with three hits; Blakeney got two hits, home run, two RBI and two runs; Madilynn Steinmann got two hits; Addison Pekar got two hits with Fokt getting a triple and Stephanie Oviedo doublling.
Blakeney and Rios each had two putouts.
