January sees snow, rain

For the first time in several years the area saw a nice dusting of snow which reached two to three inches locally.Snow and sleet fell on January 20-21 causing slushy, icy conditions for anyone trying to travel.The month also brought 3.13 inches of rain. Rain fell on 11 days with the heaviest of 1.

Eye on Beryl

It’s still to early to tell, but a major hurricane, Beryl, is breaking records as it moves through the Caribbean at this time.Currently Beryl, a Category 5 hurricane is packing winds at 165 mph with wind gusts up to 200 mph.

Tropical rains hit area

June weather was dominated by moisture from tropical storm Alberto which brought good rains to the area.The storm was not a wind-maker but produced 2.99 inches during the four-day visit.The heaviest rain came on the nineteenth when 2.54 inches fell during several rounds of good rain.

Alberto brings soaking rain

Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Alberto brought several inches of soaking rain last week.Combining a deep tropical moisture supply in the gulf, the low pressure system dumped a three day amount of 2.99 inches officially.

Storms, wind, rain part of May picture

A stormy May brought heavy rains, wind damage and severe weather warnings to the area on several occasions.Storms on the 13th brought small hail, high winds over 50 mph, and frequent lightning.Several trees lost limbs in town.The month saw 3.

Weather forecasters predict active hurricane season

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins, Saturday, June 1 and runs through the end of November and storm forecasters at Colorado State University (CSU), the Weather Channel and Accuweather all have indicated the season could be explosive and a very active one.

Storm causes severe wind damage in Yoakum

As storms hit the Yoakum community on May 13, members of the city Electrical Department worked power lines on Highland and Svoboda streets. Strong winds and sheets of rain were reported. Tree limbs and trash bins were scattered in several yards.

April temps on the high side

April saw above average temperatures and contributed decent rain to the year’s total.Thus far the city has received 18.91 inches which gives us a surplus of 9.60 inches.All total April received 1.36 inches or 2.08 inches below average. The month’s heaviest rain fell on the 10th and totaled 0.

Rain continues in March

Rainfall in March reached 4.62 inches with several good downpours hitting the area. Rain fell on eight days led by 2.43 inches on the 21st. For the year Hallettsville has received 17.55 inches which is 7.68 inches above normal.

Oh No... Hail

Last Friday’s severe thunderstorm dropped hail measuring up to 2.1 inches in and around Hallettsville. The storm cut a path through a good stretch of the county, dropping hail from pea-size up to the afore mentioned big stuff.
