Shiner football: Holland defeats Shiner 28-14 in area round

SMITHVILLE — Down 14-0 in the third quarter against Holland in the area round, Shiner rallied to tie the game. But the Hornets responded by scoring two touchdowns of their own to get past the Comanches, 28-14, Friday night at Smithville’s Tiger Field.
Shiner senior catcher Paeden Vincik’s softball days will be extended past the end of the current school year for at least two more years as she will play at Galveston College. Shiner senior Paeden Vincik will be playing collegiate softball extremely close to the beach. The Lady Comanche catcher signed with junior college program Galveston College recently.

Shiner football: Shiner turns away Freer 40-6 in first round

PLEASANTON — Some injuries and a less-than-ideal performance in the regular-season closer left Shiner knowing they would have to step up in the first round of the playoffs. The Comanches responded in a good way as they passed by Freer 40-6 in the bi-district round at Pleasanton ISD’s Eagle Stadium.

Shiner football: Bishop, Shiner down Kenedy 47-36

Trace Bishop ran for 119 yards and three touchdowns as the Comanches overran Kenedy 47-36 Friday in Kenedy in the regular-season finale. The Comanches finish the regular season at 4-6 and were 3-2 in district to place third. Shiner is scheduled to play Freer at 7 p.m. Friday in Pleasanton.

Shiner Lady Comanche Hayleigh Burns capped her high school cross-county career with a No. 78 finish out of 150 runners  at the UIL state meet 2A girls race Saturday in Round Rock. Burns finished in a time of 13 minutes, 26.
