Kapavik’s first mass takes place in Shiner Saturday

Ryan Kapavik will do something that no Shiner St. Paul graduate has ever done before when he becomes the school’s first to accept the Catholic Rites of Ordination—the final step becoming a priest—in a special mass taking place at the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral in Victoria at 10 a.m.

The Shiner Lady Comanches and Comanches track and field team wrap up the season at the UIL state meet this Friday in five events. Dalton Brooks gets things started as he will compete in the long jump at 9 a.m. Kailey Boedeker is scheduled to throw the shot put at 12:30 p.m.

St. Paul softball: Lady Cards hit four HRs in area win

It was home-run kind of day for St. Paul in the area game May 2 at Huntsville Alpha Omega. Tori Walker has two home runs while Julia Machacek and Stefany Pokluda each had one; Brooke Cerny and Presley Tuch each had a double in the Lady Cards’ 16-5 win. St.

Shiner cross country: Gipson to run cross country, try hand at cross-country skiing next year

Shiner cross-country runner Gavyn Gipson is obviously very familiar with cross-country running. What he is not as familiar with is cross-country skiing. Next school year at college, he will get that very opportunity by attending private school Northland College in Ashland, Wis.

St. Paul baseball: Cards blank Allen Academy to earn return trip to state

FAYETTEVILLE —The St. Paul Cardinals officially obtained their second straight ticket to the state tournament last week. The Cardinals downed Bryan Allen Academy 13-0 on May 3 in Fayetteville in the TAPPS V regional game.

Shiner baseball: Comanches sweep Trojans

The Comanches opened the playoffs by rolling Charlotte 13-0, 11-1 in a sweep Friday at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. Shiner 13, Charlotte 0 (Game 1) Drew Wenske and Ryan Peterson each scored four runs to get Shiner to a 12-0 win in five innings in the first game.

St. Paul track and field: SP track teams top four at state

HEWITT — The St. Paul track teams finished out the season Friday and Saturday at the TAPPS state track and field meet at Panther Stadium in Hewitt. St. Paul brought home a total of five Gold, three Silver and four Bronzes while each team got top four.

Shiner girls golf: LC eager to do well at historical showing at state meet

Early next week will be historical for the Shiner girls golf team. The Lady Comanches came in second at regionals to qualify for the state tournament as a team for the first time in school history. Shiner has sent individual golfer Monington Clark to state in 2017 and 2019.
