YHS FFA Agriculture Issues Team advances to Area competition

The Future Farmers of America (FFA) Agriculture (Ag) Issues Forum team at Yoakum High School advanced from district to area. This team has been practicing hard and presenting their thesis to various organizations in the community.

The Yoakum Police Department along with partners of the Yoakum Fire Department/Emergency Medical Services, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Emergency Management and the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office were honored to join Yoakum ISD School Resource Officer Sarah Mendoza for a walk-through of all Yoakum ISD campuses Aug. 11. The walk-through will ensure campuses are safe and ready for the 2025-2026 school year

Board approves student handbook which includes cell phone ban

The Yoakum Independent School Board members approved the student and employee handbooks for the 2025-26 school year at the Aug. 11 meeting. One of the biggest additions in the student handbook is the prohibition of students using personal cell phone devices on campus.

Yoakum High School welcomes Victor Posada as band director

The Yoakum High School Band has a new band director. Victor Posada will be entering his 8th year as a band director and his first year with Yoakum High School. Before coming to YHS, he was the Director of Bands at Crystal City High School in Crystal City.
