Yoakum volleyball: Yoakum spikers win Shiner Tournament

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-0 after winning the Shiner Tournament last weekend. The Lady Bulldogs won all five matches they played and lost just one set the whole tournament. Jayana Phillips and Destiny Rios earned a place on the All-Tournament Team.

The Yoakum Bulldogs football hosted La Vernia in a pre-season scrimmage last Friday. Yoakum scored three times while the Bears got the ball in the end zone twice. “We did some good things and we did some bad things,” Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said. “It was our first action against another team.

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs volleyball team start pre-season workouts on Monday. On Monday and Tuesday (July 31-Aug. 1), there will be conditioning for all players from 8-10 a.m., practice for freshmen from noon to 3 p.m. and practice for sophomores through seniors from 2-5.

McLennan College baseball player and Yoakum graduate Connor Zaruba pitched in over a dozen games during his 2023 freshman year of baseball. Zaruba’s first action came in the second game of a home doubleheader to Navarro College on Jan. 29, a 7-1 McLennan win.

oakum grad Hagen Garvin played in six total games for San Angelo State Rams football team in the 2022 season. In the season opener against Chadron State Sept. 1, Garvin was 0-for-1 passing for 0 yards as Angelo State won their season opener 35-0.
