Burn ban lifted

After hearing from Lavaca County EMS assistant chief/Lavaca County Fire Chiefs Association liaison Tim Decker at its Tuesday morning, April 14, meeting, the commissioners’ court voted to lift the burn ban in the county.

Lavaca County EMS has successfully administered its first prehospital blood transfusion to an unstable patient.Earlier this week, paramedics responded to a call involving a critically ill patient experiencing life-threatening instability.

EMS helps search and rescue dogs

Lavaca County Emergency Management Services crews recently helped search and rescue dogs recover from heat and exhaustion while on deployment in Kerrville. Using special equipment made for animals, medics gave oxygen to several cadaver dogs needing medical attention.

Court designates May 18-24 as EMS Week

At Monday morning ’s Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court meeting, the court approved four proclamations.One of the proclamations involved the court designating the week of May 18 through 24 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

EMT week is coming up soon

EMT week is coming up soon and it’s important to recognize the work that EMT’s do.Michael Furrh is the EMS Chief for Lavaca and Colorado Counties and he’s been in the field for about 22 years.“EMT week comes around and sneaks up on us because we stay pretty busy,” Furrh said.

Court approves creation of fourth Lavaca County EMS crew

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning and approved the creation of a fourth Lavaca County EMS crew.Lavaca County EMS director Michael Furrh spoke to the court regarding the need for adding fourth crew.
Lavaca County EMS technicians volunteered to help in the Texans Helping Texans program. These two technicians traveled to the Rio Grande Valley from March 28 to April 4 and assisted with south Texas residents stricken by the severe flooding that took place March 26 through 28. Texans Helping Texans

On March 26 through early March 28, the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) was inundated with over 20 inches of rainfall.Eastern Starr County, southern Hidalgo County and northern Cameron County were the most severely hit and set records of rainfall at many locations in those areas.
