Andy Rice Sr. honored
Kansas City Chief's starting defensive end in first Super Bowl
Former Stevens Mayo football standout and NFL player, Andy Rice Sr., was recognized once again for the 2nd annual Andy Rice Sr. Day. Rice starred for the Tigers in the 1950’s and went on to have an outstanding career as a defensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Oilers, San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears.
Rice was a starting defensive end for the Chiefs when they played the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I on Jan. 15, 1967. Following his football playing career, Rice served as an assistant football coach at Aldine High School in Houston. Rice passed away on Feb. 11, 2018. He was honored with the pictured cake to commemorate his birthday, which was September 6.
