Blood drive in memory of Matthew Pohler slated for December 21
It’s that time of the year again! Time for us to ask everyone who is able to donate blood or platelets to this worthy cause. Since December of 2015 we have been hosting this life-saving event, and every year the generosity of all of you donors out there never ceases to amaze us. This year’s date is December 21. We have collected hundreds of blood products and a “Be The Match” bone marrow transplant has been carried through.
Until 10 years ago our family never realized that the idea of a holiday could send fear through the hearts of a family, fear that there would not be enough blood donated at this busy time of the year to literally save our loved one’s life. Our Matthew felt this fear during every holiday period since his diagnosis of cancer in November of 2012.
He swore to someday somehow help ease this problem. This blood drive in his memory is our family’s way of honoring his dream. Please consider donating. Walk-ins are welcome and will be worked into the schedule, or sign up on the website listed.
If there is someone you know suffering from cancer at MDAnderson that uses blood products, your donation can credit $25 to their blood processing account if you can bring their MDA patient number.
Again, this year’s date is Wednesday, December 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come to the Activity Center/Gym at the Shiner First United Methodist Church, 102 W. Church St. in Shiner. Picture ID is required. Appreciation T- shirt and refreshments provided for donors.
Thank you all and Merry Christmas from the Pohler family.
