Gonzales Healthcare System offers Certified Sports Physical Therapist to treat local athletes
Ron Johnson, PT, MPT, LAT, ATC has achieved recertification as a board-certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in one of nine specialty areas and must successfully complete a rigorous examination, demonstrating specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapist practice.
Certifications are valid for 10 years. Ron, now in his twenty-seventh year as a physical therapist, has been recertified twice. For recertification, ABPTS has developed a maintenance model that focuses on continuing competence of the physical therapist specialist.
Ron, who is also a Licensed and Certified Athletic Trainer, states “Maintaining my board-certification is key to demonstrating my commitment to pursuing the highest level of skill with which to best serve my patients.” He adds, “I feel it is the patient who benefits when they entrust themselves with someone who is certified as a specialist in a number of areas.” In addition to his work as physical therapist, Ron volunteers his services as a Licensed Athletic Trainer for area schools, and as a former Texas Aggie baseball player, he has developed a special interest and niche within the medical and sports community for his treatment of athletes.
Ron works for Gonzales Healthcare Systems’ therapy centers, with centers in Gonzales and Shiner. The Shiner center is housed with Sievers Medical Clinic – Shiner at 207 W. 7th Street.
This location also has Occupational and Speech Therapy services.
