Long, Ressler place in Top-8 at HLSR commercial steer contest

  The Hallettsville Commercial Steer Program had an exciting three days at the Houston Livestock Show Junior Commercial Steer Contest held March 5-7.  

Each exhibitor from Hallettsville raised a pen of three commercial steer to market weight,

In addition, they submitted a financial record book, completed a Beef Science Exam and Meat Science ID and Exam as well as participating in a formal interview process.  

“All our exhibitors represented their community and families well,” Heath Ressler said. “We are proud of their progress and accomplishments.  

Following the contest, Jett Long and Jake Ressler finished in the Top 8 finalists

These two exhibitors participated in a second interview with Beef Industry professionals lasting about an hour each. 

The topics included in the interview were on animal health, nutrition, feedlot management, financing and risk management.  

Long and Ressler both received HLSR Top 8 Belt Buckles and $1,000 in prize money

Also participating in the contest were Holly Ressler, Ashlyn Pustka, Abby Ressler, Macey Pustka, Jordan Whitley, Darby Phillips, Jessie Whitley, Ryan Janak, Rylan Marak, Kyle Svetlik and Landon Koehne.
