Playday Fundraiser brings roping chute to Yoakum Rodeo Arena
Volunteers with the Yoakum Rode Arena recently purchased a roping chute for the facility with funds raised through a benefit playday in late October. Fundraiser organizers plan to introduce the $2,650 chute to the arena after some maintenance, hoping to attract more rodeo sports enthusiasts.
Kim Chandler, one of the volunteers who collected the chute from Decatur last month, said the Yoakum Rodeo Arena Benefit Playday proved successful as a means to improve the arena and acquire equipment.
"We chose to make the roping chute our first big purchase for the arena because we feel in our area roping is what most people are into,” said Chandler. “Plus, we have big ideas for the future that will require a roping chute.”
The playday’s success garnered public interest in future events in the arena, said Chander. She expressed gratitude for all the community members, businesses, organizations and contestants that supported the playday.
“We have so many plans for this arena, Yoakum and surrounding areas. Our playday was a huge hit, and we have already had a ton of people ask when the next one is,” said Chandler. “We want to host a roping to promote the new roping chute, and really the list goes on.”
