SNYPD opens downtown resale shop

Downtown Cuero introduced an ethically-sound shopping option for customers looking to support a local non-profit while browsing affordable clothing items. Spay Neuter Your Pet DeWitt County (SNYPD) volunteers welcomed Black Friday shoppers to the grand opening of their storefront at 202 South Esplanade on Nov. 25.

SNYPD is a local organization dedicated to reducing the stray animal population in DeWitt County by offering free vouchers for discounted spay and neuter services to pet owners. The organization funds its mission with proceeds from a low-cost thrift shop operated by volunteers.

The organization's president, Crystal Irvin, said SNYPD responded to increased spay and neuter voucher demand by opting to move into the downtown storefront.

“Honestly, the need for the spay and neuter vouchers is so high that it was either open a new shop and bring in more funds or close it because the warehouse really wasn't bringing in the funds that we needed,” said Irvin.

The thrift shop will serve gusts at the end of each week, on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Hours of operation may expand to Thursdays, depending on volunteer interest.

Irvin said the new location provides several benefits to the organization and its patrons compared to the warehouse on Heaton Street. The downtown spot would likely attract more foot traffic, increase store visibility and offer improved parking.

“We really love the new location. It fits our needs so well (regarding) space, having a work area and more room for more items to sell…,” said Irvin. “We will be accepting more items, even furniture items. We just ask that those items be scheduled for drop off.”
