With the dawn of July comes the excitement of Moulton’s biggest event, the Town and Country Jamboree, and this year marks the 61st celebration, a weekend full of fun and friends.

To kick off the three-day festival, slated for July 29-31, the Chamber will host the Moulton Royalty Pageant at the American Legion Hall beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 24.

Young girls and boys will have the opportunity to compete in the Miss Moulton, Junior Miss Moulton, Young Miss Moulton, Little Miss Moulton, and Little Mr. Moulton contests. Winners will not only receive the crown and title but cash prizes as well.

Contestants will be highlighted in following week’s Eagle.

The weekend starts off with Friday’s cookoff events—the jackpot Bloody Mary, jackpot shrimp, and jackpot salsa contests—with winners announced that night under the pavilion.

Arts and crafts and food vendors also open Friday, and of course, the Chamber will be making those delicious hamburgers and serving ice cold beverages all weekend.

Texas Born Amusement will be back with a small carnival for the littles to have fun, and the co-ed softball tournament opens for the more experienced to enjoy. As always, free music will be playing all weekend long thanks to 26 amazing Jamboree sponsors, and Friday night features the Broken Alibi band.

Saturday starts bright and early with the jackpot chili and jackpot beans competitions and finishes off in the afternoon with the IBCA-sanctioned barbecue chicken, ribs, and brisket cookoff, which boasts a $4,500 guaranteed total payout to winners.

One change this year is the elimination of the Go-Texan brisket event.

Softball continues Saturday with the men’s tournament, and then the day carries on with arts and crafts, carnival rides, food, the tug-a-tractor at 7 p.m., and the musical tunes of Briana Adams followed by the Texas Unlimited Band.

Sunday is just as jam packed, beginning with the car and truck show as well as the tractor show, both beginning at 8 a.m. at the City Park grounds. Guests will definitely want to check out the classics.

Next up is the parade downtown at 10:30 a.m. Parade goers will enjoy the floats, tractors, horses and, of course, endless candy.

Afterwards, folks will be sure to enjoy the three-piece fried chicken and trimmings plates-to-go which will be held at the American Legion Hall this year from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The meal is drive-through only with no dine-in, and plates are $12 each.

On tap also is the annual Pie Contest and Auction, which benefits scholarships for MHS graduates and post-graduates. Pies will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon at the community center, with the auction beginning at 2 p.m. at the Hall at Moulton Oaks.

The cornhole tournament, in its second year at Jamboree, will begin at 1 p.m. in the pavilion area and pay out generously to the top three winners. Get your partners now.

Lastly, the Czechaholics will liven up the dance floor with those favorite polka tunes from noon to 4 p.m. followed by SouthPaw to close out the weekend with more contemporary country music until 8 p.m.
