Flores recognized during National Athletic Training month
Hallettsville High School athletic trainer, Shannon Flores, was recognized Monday evening, March 10 at the HISD Board of Trustee meeting. Her recognition was in part of March being National Athletic Training month.
Flores began her career in athletic training at Rockport-Fulton High School in 2012, before spending time at Smithville HS and starting with the Hallettsville ISD two years ago.
“I have been dedicated to supporting student-athletics through injury prevention,” Flores said. “I was fortunate to join the Hallettsville school district in 2023 in bringing me closer to home and the community I love.”
Describing her duties, Flores said she arrives at school by 6:30 a.m. each day and prepares treatments that begin at 7 a.m.
She works with student-athletes recovering from ACL tears and other sports-related conditions.
“My responsibilities extend well into the evening where athletes receive the care they need before, during and after practices as well as games,” Flores said. “On game days, my commitment stretches from early morning until the last athlete leaves. It often keeps me at school past 10 p.m.”
Hallettsville ISD athletic director and head football coach Levi Montgomery said, “For those who do not work in the athletic department, it is difficult to articulate the value Shannon brings to our district daily
Montgomery said as the athletic director he likely sees what Flores does for the HISD sports more than others.
“The number of hours Shannon dedicates to our teams and the athletes is too numerous to attempt to place a number on it,” Montgomery said. “If she is ‘only’ at the school 12 hours, that is considered a light day by her workload standards.”
Montgomery highly complimented Flores saying, “Shannon is a true professional and genuinely loves the student-athlete in need. Her positive attitude and disposition toward helping the athlete return from, not only bumps and bruises, but serious injuries alike, keeps the morale of our athletes high. She is a tremendous asset to our district and we are fortunate to have her.”
Hallettsville High School principal, Mason Briscoe also complimented Flores’ efforts saying, “From a campus-wide perspective, Shannon is an invaluable asset to HHS. Her presence goes beyond the training room and the sidelines. She fosters a culture of care, resilience, and excellence.”
Briscoe said Shannon has a tireless work ethic and passion for student success.
“She makes a lasting impact on our athletes, staff and school community,” Briscoe said. “We are proud and grateful to have her as part of our team.”
