Area lawmen asking for public’s help in solving fuel theft

The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the theft of a 500-gallon diesel tank the owner says had just topped off with about that much fuel when someone arrived at the job and stole not only the tank with the fuel, but the trailer it was mounted to as well.

Investigators say the theft occurred at just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at a jobsite located off Stokes Road near Fayetteville in Colorado County.

Security cameras captured images of what appears to be a light-colored Dodge cab-and-a-half flatbed pickup, with a fuel tank mounted on the bed.

Detectives with the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office decided to turn to the public for help in solving the case on Tuesday, May 3.
