Area schools report first day enrollment
The school term for 2024-25 began during the past two weeks with area schools, Sacred Heart Catholic School and Hallettsville, Ezzell and Vysehrad ISDs, reporting their first day enrollment numbers.
At SHCS, classes began on Thursday, Aug. 8 with the school reporting an increase in enrollment for grades high school, but overall having one less student than the previous year.
According SHCS principal, Kevin Haas, the high school had 105 students, five more than the 2023- 24 term.
Overall there were 319 total students attending on the first day with 20 students in grades 3K, 23 in 4K and 174 in K–8.
Hallettsville ISD started classes Thursday, Aug. 15 and according to Hallettsville ISD District PEIMS director, Geraldine Dornak, the district had a total of 1,169 students enrolled in the district on the first day, an increase of 19 students from last year’s first day attendance of 1,150.
The Hallettsville Elementary reported 464 total students enrolled, an increase of 40 students from the previous year.
The Jr. High had 295 students down three from last year’s first day.
On the high school campus, there were 418 total students enrolled, a decrease of 10 from 2022-23.
Vysehrad ISD started classes, Wednesday, Aug. 7 and VISD superintendent/principal Rachel Robertson reported they had 76 students attending the first day, which was 11 students less than last year’s first day.
Starting this school year, VISD has gone to a four-day week class calendar with class not in session on Mondays.
Ezzell ISD began classes on Tuesday, Aug. 6, with principal Jody Thompson reporting 127 students in grades Pre-K through 12.
As of this week, the school increased three students and now have 130 attending EISD.
Regarding a breakdown of the student numbers, Thompson said they have 100 enrolled in Pre-K through the 8th grade and 30 students in 9-12 grade.
Ezzell ISD also follows a four-day week classes not in session on Fridays.
