City issues scam alert

The City of Hallettsville wishes to inform its citizens of an email spoofing scam that has been taking place recently.

According to a City of Hallettsville Facebook post, the scam involves a subject receiving an email that claimed their Water Utility bill was past due and that immediate action was needed to avoid possible late fees or disconnection.

The subject said the emails were received from the website domains of dguibril@digitalusn.com.

The City of Hallettsville wants citizens to be aware that they do not use email as method of communication regarding disconnection from non-payment of utility bills.

The Facebook post said if you receive any suspicious emails, do not reply and contact the Hallettsville Police Department at 361-798-3683.

Email spoofing is a method used in spam and phishing attacks to trick users into thinking a message came from a person or entity they know and trust.
