Council creates “Master Plan” for park improvements
By Clayton Kelley
The Moulton City Council discussed the idea of creating a “Master Plan” for their ongoing efforts at improving the Moulton City Park at the March 11 meeting.
“We are going to get feedback in the future from the citizens to ascertain what improvements they would like to see done in the park,” Councilmember Adam Nieto said. “After information is gathered, we plan to create a ten-year ‘Master Plan.’”
There has already been recent work being done at the Moulton City Park.
“We’re about to replace the ceiling fan under the pavilion,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “That would be done the first week of April. We did have some contractor do some clean-up and painting underneath the pavilion preparing for the new fans.”
The council also had some discussion regarding the Texas Water Development Board clean water state revolving fund.
“This is for the wastewater plant,” Rogers said. “We just had some discussions on it, but there was no action. We just discussed the process of going through the grant. We’ve already been approved for the grant.”
In the Moulton Police Department report, it showed that there were 347 calls for service for the month of February. A total of 23 traffic contacts were made with six citations being issued and 17 warnings written.
It was also reported that Officer TJ McCleney has left the MPD for Mustang Ridge PD.
“She was hired as a fulltime Lieutenant for that department,” Police Chief Daniel Beyer said. “I wish her nothing but the best.”
MPD has hired two new part-time officers with those being Larry McDougal and Justin Mendoza.
“Both officers bring many years of experience to the department and our community,” Beyer said. “I am excited to have them as part of my team.”
Beyer is a Lavaca County Representative for Gulf Bend, and he has been working to secure funding for a Mental Health Deputy for the area.
It was also reported that Student Resource Officer for Moulton ISD Norma Pritchard assisted with “Career Day” at MISD.
“She invited local law enforcement, county law enforcement, and state law enforcement agencies to set up booths,” Beyer said. “It was a huge success, and I was proud to have been part of the event. SRO Pritchard did a great job representing the department and community.”
The Shiner Police Department recently donated several body cameras to MPD.
Other items on the agenda include:
• A presentation was given from the “Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn.”
• An ordinance was made cancelling the May election for the City Council as all running were unopposed.
• The council accepted bids for selling the Moulton Scout Hut Building.
• Council discussed setting a policy regarding boring for water and wastewater utility distribution lines.
