The Moulton City Council discussed code enforcement at the April 8 meeting.
“It is spring and the grass is going to be growing,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “We discussed health and safety ordinance codes. That includes tall grass, junk, rubbish and junked vehicles.”
The council also discussed several grant applications while approving one. The first application discussed was from the Texas Water Development Board.
“We discussed the next one we applied for which is for water plant improvements,” Rogers said. “We also approved a grant to help fund a water well in Moulton. There is a need for a water well here.”
There was also ongoing discussions about the improvements at the Moulton City Park.
“All the rehab and painting on the pavilion was completed,” Council member Adam Nieto said. “The two new fans under the pavilion were also installed. Some dead trees were cut down and other trees were trimmed. Next on the list is resurfacing the court next to the pavilion and improvements to handicapped parking near the pavilion. Also, maintenance to the log cabin will be done probably by next week. I’m trying to apply for more grants and seeking donations so we can continue to make park improvements.”
The Moulton police report showed that for the month of March, there were a total of 424 service calls. A total of 44 traffic contacts were made with 11 citations being issued and 33 warnings given.
The Moulton Police Department also attended several events throughout the month of March in preparing for recognizing April as Child Abuse Awareness Month. Officers wore blue badges throughout the month of April in support of this awareness. The report also showed that the Yoakum Police Department requested assistance with an armed robbery which happened in March.
“Officer Hernandez responded and she located the vehicle containing three of the robbery suspects,” Police Chief Daniel Beyer said in his report. “I am beyond proud to say our own Officer Hernandez was the reason the crime was solved. We recognize Lavaca County is a safer place to live when we pool our resources and our officers together.”
The MPD also assisted ICE with the arrest of an individual. The subject dumped a bunch of garbage and furniture along FM 532 West.
