DeWitt Commissioners’ Court approves stop sign, discusses FM 240 project

The DeWitt County Commissioner’s Court approved a stop sign to be placed at the intersection of Stanchos and Gohlke School Road at the June 12 meeting. This is traffic control related as the road comes to a three way, and the commissioner’s felt there is a need for a stop sign there.

The court also discussed the FM-240 project,. The FM-240 project is directly related to heavy traffic concerns near the Westhoff ISD campus. They hope to change the course of FM-240 to the existing Carter Street in the Westhoff Township from its current route in front of the school. Once the new stretch of highway is built and placed into service, traffic will be redirected. TXDOT will then convey a portion of the existing roadway to the county and it will recert back to its former street named of Lynch Avenue. Only local traffic and school-related traffic will be serviced by Lynch after the transfer.

A temporary water line from Qwik Pipe Inc. is also placed along Thieme Road,Schneider, Ranch Road, Scheffler  Road, Edmund Mueller Road, and Caveza Road in Precinct Three.

DeWitt County also received a grant of $26,480 from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission. This is a reimbursement from the Indigent Defense Commission program, it helps to reimburse the county for defendants that can’t afford an attorney.

A donation of $1,200 was given to the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office from Devon Energy for public safety purposes.
