DeWitt commissioners meet on May 13 at courthouse

DeWitt County Commissioners executed and implemented an Economic Development and Donation Agreement between DeWitt County and the Cuero Livestock Show at the May 13 meeting.

The donation is $25,000 and will go towards the maintenance and operations before and after the Cuero Livestock Show.

“These funds will also go towards the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building, the Friar Ag Center, and the Harvey and Jane Mueller Rodeo Arena,” DeWitt County Ag Agent Anthony Netardus said.

“This will be a tremendous help to us. In the last few years, it’s been interesting to find out how much it cost to keep it maintained. Our show continues to grow, not just with the livestock projects, but the homemaking projects. It’s a great thing for our county and the youth of our county.”

There’s been much growth in 4-H over the last few years and there’s an important need for these operating expenses at the arena, according to Judge Daryl Fowler.

“It has really turned into a wonderful venue for those doing fundraisers and bringing in outside citizens and groups into the county,” Fowler said.

Other items on the agenda included:

• Commissioners received the preliminary net value estimate of appraised taxable property. The value is $1.8 billion.

• A transfer of ownership between the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office to the Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission was approved. $24,998 worth of equipment was transferred.
