DeWitt County Commissioners approve agreements

The DeWitt County Commissioners approved several agreements at the Oct. 14 meeting.

The first agreement was a Practitioner Agreement between TML MultiState Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool and the Cuero-DeWitt County Health Department for the City of Yoakum.

“This is an annual thing brought to us wherein the City of Yoakum is seeking our health department employees to come over to the city and administer flu shots,” DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler said.

The second agreement was an interlocal one between the County of Live Oak and the County of DeWitt for sharing the expense of legislative consulting services for a one-year term.

The next agreement was between DeWitt County and Veoci Inc. for the use of the Veoci Platform software and services for incident and emergency management solutions. It is a one year agreement.

“It basically helps us with financial tracking of resources and the cost of those resources,” DeWitt County Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan Jr. said. “You can log onto the software and as an (emergency) event is unfolding, commissioners can get on the software and put it in the cost we are looking at. It streamlines the tracking and documentation for reimbursements.”

It was also reported that the county’s personnel policy is outdated and needs to be changed.

“I’m suggesting that over the next quarter, a committee should be designed to look at this and come back at the first of the year to bring an updated policy,”

The committee would consist of a HR representative, the county treasurer, Fowler, the county attorney, and one commissioner.

Other items on the agenda include:

• The court appointed additional election judges and alternates for the Nov. 5 election.

• Commissioners received the 2024 DeWitt County tax roll as well as the road and bridge tax roll from the tax assessor collector.

• A Certificate of completion was given to Jordan Jr. from the FEMA National Fire Academy  for the successful completion of the ICS 300 Expanding Incidents for Operational First Responders training course. Another Certificate of Completion was given to DeWitt County Treasurer Desirae Poth-Garibay for that same training course.

• A permit application from Burlington Resources Oil and Gas Company LP for the installation of a temporary water line along Alfred Blaschke Road in Precinct 3 was approved.

• The next Commissioners Court meeting was rescheduled from Monday, Nov. 11 to Tuesday, Nov. 12. This is due to Veteran’s Day being on that Monday.

• Precinct 3 operations were running smoothly; however, it was reported in Precinct 2 that either someone or a group of people have been stealing street signs.
