DeWitt County Commissioners Court to attend groundbreaking for FM 240 project

By Clayton Kelley

The DeWitt County Commissioners Court held a regular meeting Monday morning, but due to the deadline of the paper at noon, a detailed report of the meeting will appear in next week’s paper.

Although the agenda is short, there are a couple of things to note for the meeting.

Firstly, there will be a memorandum of understanding between DeWitt County and the Texas Department of Public Safety to authorize the use of certain emergency response organizations.

A presentation is slated to be held from Friends of Elder Citizens regarding their meal delivery program.

Some county employees will be enrolling in required state certified cyber training.

Lastly, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the FM 240 project.

“It is a way to bring the road to highway 87 so that some 18 wheelers do not take the route because of the school,” DeWitt County Precinct 1 Commissioner Ryan Varela said.

“The whole idea regarding the project is to reroute all of the heavy traffic away from the school. This is a project between DeWitt County and Texas Department of Transportation. Some officials from Westhoff ISD and the State will be there as well.”
