DeWitt County Commissioners made a proclamation designating the week starting Oct. 6 as National 4-H Week at the Sept. 23 meeting.
“The DeWitt County Commissioners Court is proud to honor the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service for 116 years of providing experienced based education for youth throughout the Lone Star State,” Judge Daryl Fowler said. “This admirable program seeks to provide learning experience for all youth. It helps young Texans to acquire knowledge to develop life skills to enable them to become self-directed and productive and contributing members to our society.”
Youth of the 4-H County Councilmembers attended the meeting to receive the proclamation. There are ten kids in total that serve on the council.
Commissioners also approved a ratification of the contract for rental of election equipment and elections services for the Nov. 5 General Election between DeWitt County and the Yoakum Independent School District.
“The school district is attempting to do a voter approved tax rate election on Nov. 5,” Fowler said.
Commissioners authorized Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan to apply for the Wal-Mart Good Spark Grant.
“They are actually offering $2,000 worth of products, goods, materials, and supplies for Emergency Management Office to help in the promotion of good practices with fire safety and crisis operations,” Fowler said.
An approval of agreement between First National Bank of Shiner and DeWitt County for Positive Pay Services was made.
“The Positive Pay agreement is a service that First National Bank of Shiner offers to us to protect against fraudulent checks processing through our bank account,” DeWitt County Treasurer Desirae PothGaribay said.
Other items on the agenda include:
• A Certificate of Completion for Jordan from the Texas Division of Emergency Management was approved. He successfully completed the emergency operations center and incident command system interface training courses.
• An Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement with the City of Cuero was approved for placing Christmas attractions on the south lawn of the Courthouse beginning Nov. 11.
