Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce expands Visitor Center
By Clayton Kelley
The Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce recently made some renovations to their building expanding their Visitor’s Center.
“There was a house bill that passed this past year affecting our eligibility for Hot Funds from the city,” Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joann Shimek said. “So, we had to change it to where the Visitor’s Center part was at least 51%. This is of our building as a whole. So, we’re basically 49% Chamber and 51% Visitor Center. So with that, we had to change the structure of the office to meet our requirements. This aligns with our mission to promote economic development, heighten the visitor experience, and foster a sense of community pride.”
With this, the Chamber aims to bring in more tourism.
“We have had people that come through from all over the world including Germany or Czechoslovakia,” Shimek said. “They come here to get brochures and information. We have magazines here which detail what there is to do in Texas. We also have magazines from other towns and our county and city map as well.”
American Shield Roofing and Construction were the ones who made the renovations.
The purpose for the Visitor Center is as follows:
• Information Hub: The Visitor Center will serve as a centralized location where tourists can access comprehensive information about local attractions, events, businesses, and services.
• Promotion of Local Businesses: The Chamber aims to collaborate with local businesses, tour operators, and cultural institutions to showcase the richness and diversity of the community. The Visitor Center will provide a platform for businesses to promote their products and services.
• Enhanced Visitor Experience: Trained staff or volunteers will be available to offer personalized assistance, maps, brochures, and information on local points of interest ensuring that visitors have a positive and memorable experience in Hallettsville.
• Promotional Merchandise: The Visitor Center will feature promotional merchandise related to Hallettsville, providing visitors with an opportunity to take home a piece of the unique offerings and culture Hallettsville has to offer.
With this new Visitor Center, there are benefits to the City of Hallettsville according to Shimek.
These include:
• Economic Impact: The Visitor Center will contribute to economic growth to the city by attracting more tourists thereby increasing business for local establishments.
• Community Engagement: By providing a centralized location for information and community engagement, the Visitor Center will foster a sense of community pride and connection.
• Tourism Development: The establishment of a Visitor Center aligns with the city’s goals for tourism development, making Hallettsville a more attractive destination for visitors.
“The envisioned Visitor Center aims to be a welcoming and informative space that serves as the heart of our city’s hospitality,” Shimek said. “It will offer visitors a dynamic and engaging experience, showcasing the best our community has to offer.”
The following was key elements of the Chamber’s vision for the Visitor Center:
• Design: The Chamber proposed a design that reflects the unique character of Hallettsville, incorporating elements that resonate with its cultural heritage and local aesthetics.
• Visitor-Friendly Layout: The Visitor Center is strategically laid out to facilitate easy navigation. It includes information stations, interactive displays, and comfortable seating areas.
• Digital Displays: Cutting-edge technology will be integrated, featuring digital displays for interactive maps, virtual tours, and real-time information on local events and attractions.
• Local Art and Culture Showcase: The Visitor Center will serve as a platform for local artists and cultural institutions to showcase their work, enriching the cultural experience for visitors.
Per week, at least 25 people come to the Visitor Center for their needs according to Shimek.
“I’m happy with the changes and I’m looking forward to the future of our Visitor Center and bringing more tourists to our town,” Shimek said.
Shimek encourages businesses to become a Chamber member.
“We are the marketing engine for Hallettsville, and we want to be able to promote our businesses,” Shimek said. “Those wanting to become a member can give us a call here at the Chamber or visit our website.”
The Chamber is located at 1614 N. Texana St. and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
