HISD Board discusses/approves various agenda items

A mixed bag of approving agenda items and discussions of items topped the HISD Board of Trustees meeting Monday night.

The trustees okayed a bond election for Saturday, May 4. No particulars of the bond were not announced.

Rain has delayed completion of the parking lot east of the high school.

A spokesman for Frontier Development Corporation said paving will begin this week. An additional 135 parking spaces will be added.

The board approved a resolution to pay premium wages during the emergency school closing Jan. 22- 23.

A “Rise Up For Life” Town Hall meeting is set for Feb. 24 to discuss the influx of illicit drugs entering Lavaca County.

The open border policy has led to the problem.

The board’s regular meeting for March 11 has been moved to March 18 due to Spring Break. The forming of a school district police department was discussed, but no action was taken.

• The district has collected 90.52% ($8.20 million) of the 2023 taxes.

• Local revenue collected was $4.75 million at the end of January.

• State revenue collected was at $4.46 million.

• Total revenue was at $9.25 million, 66.22% of the budget.

• The checking account was at $9.84 million.

• I&S Market account was ($.94% interest) was $10.48 million.

• Bills for January were $72,002.16
