LCSO issues scam alert
The Lavaca County Sheriff ’s Office wants to alert county residents of a scam that has been taking place in the area.
According to a LCSO Facebook post, the sheriff ’s office said they have received reports of individuals being contacted by scammers by text and/or phone claiming to be from law enforcement.
The text/caller will say there is a warrant out for the person’s arrest.
Often the text/caller will demand the person pay through gift cards, wire transfers, or other untraceable methods to clear themselves of the warrant.
The LCSO wants to remind county residents that:
• Law enforcement will never call you to demand payment over the phone.
• Law enforcement does not accept gift cards or payments for unresolved payments.
• If you receive such a call, hang up immediately, or do not answer.
